2010 - June 26 (Day 11) Grande Prairie, AB to Ft. Nelson, BC

We covered 370 miles today to get to the Westend RV Campground in Ft. Nelson, BC (Mile 284). The WiFi doesn't work here, so I'll be late posting this - maybe tomorrow if we're lucky.

About 70 miles after we left Grande Prairie we rolled into Dawson Creek where we took pictures at BOTH Alaska Highway Mile Zero signs. Stopped at a gas station convenience store where we paid $4.56 per gallon ($1.199 per liter) for gasoline and bought a half gallon of milk for $3.99. Later in the day, we stopped for gas again, but out in the boonies, it was $5.13 per gallon ($1.349 per liter), but it's a good thing we stopped there because the next station, 140 miles down the road, was out of fuel, but we probably would have run out of gas before we got there anyway.

We saw our first moose today. It was lying on the side of the road with all four legs pointed toward the sky. We're hoping to see some livelier wild life soon.
After we set up the camper, we walked next door to the Ft. Nelson Heritage Museum. There are several buildings and outdoor displays covering everything about the area from a stuffed albino moose to an old Caterpillar bull dozer used to construct the Alaska Highway. It was interesting.

BTW, the daily temperatures have been 65 - 75, depending on how much sun we got, and high 40s at night. Good sleeping!

We ate dinner in the camper this evening, but we thought we'd go to the campground bar & grill for a nightcap. Two Bud Lights = $10.50!! I'll stick to my cooler from now on!
