It was 10:30 by the time we gassed up and replenished our groceries and beer, but we only had about 15 miles to drive before arriving at North Pole, AK. We browsed around Santa Claus House and Marsha arranged for letters from Santa to be delivered to Adi & Grayson in December.
As usual, it rained most of the day, but we managed to cover 297 miles before arriving at the Border City RV Park & Resort at Mile 1225 on the Alaska Highway. It's about four miles on the Alaska side of the Alaska/Yukon, CA border. We stopped to get a campsite and were told that all of the sites that aren't flooded, due to the 3.5 inches of rain in 24 hours, are full, partially due to the road repair crew staying here. It was time to stop for the day and we didn't want to get caught without a place to stay, so I talked the proprietor into letting us dry camp (no hook-ups) next to his fuel tanks. He only charged us $15.00 which includes showers and WiFi.
The last 14 miles of the highway we traveled was under construction. I think you can see by the pictures that it was a bit muddy, to say the least! So, we're snuggling in here for the night. They have a few rooms here if you want to pay $90.00 per night, but we know who the last people were who slept on our sheets in the camper. (LOL)
There have been some questions about how our equipment is performing on the trip. Both the car and the camper are performing admirably. Absolutely no problems. The only thing I've done is scheduled maintenance. I changed the car's oil & filter and greased the camper's wheel bearings while we were in Denali National Park. I'm still carrying the used oil, but I might just get rid of it at this "resort" where we're staying. We've towed the camper about 6,000 miles and have dry camped as many as three nights in a row. Everything is working as it should.
Tomorrow we'll be back in Yukon, Canada. We have to go quite a ways east before heading south thru British Columbia to get to Haines, AK to look around. See you there!
