We started our morning by walking around the harbor and looking at all the boats. Then we went downtown and watched the Independence Day Parade. After the Parade, we went to the Valdez Museum and learned a bit about the history of the town and the area. After that it was back to the camper for a quick lunch before picking up some beer and milk (the necessities) and gassing up the car.
After we put the groceries away, we walked the other way along the harbor to the beginning of the Dock Point Trail. We hiked the Dock Point Trail. It was only about a one mile loop, but there were some nice views and a lot of different plants and flowers. Then it was over to the docks for the community picnic. No charge for the hamburgers, chips, cookies and drink. After dinner it was entertainment by the Miller Sisters. They were very good.
It started raining while the fire department was trying to start the bonfire. They finally got it started at about 8:30. Two hours until the fireworks begin, so we're back in the camper watching TV and getting warmed up.
Well, it's 10:30 and the fireworks have started. With the low, thick cloud cover, it's like watching fireworks at dusk rather than after dark.
