2010 - July 7 (Day 22) Seward to Homer

Before leaving Seward this morning, we went back into town and picked up some groceries and ice. Even after that, it was only 8:15 when we hit the road. We got an email last night from our Minnesota friends saying that they were staying at Homer Spit Campground, so after covering 178 miles by noon, we found the campground and their Scamp, but they weren't around. That didn't stop us from getting a sight and going on a self guided walking tour of the area.

We managed to find the Salty Dawg tavern among all of the shops and talk to a few other tourists while having an afternoon beer. We got back to the campground about 5:00. Jim and Bonnie had already eaten, so we headed for Captain Pattie's for some fresh local Halibut. They don't call Homer the Halibut Capital of the World for nothing. Delicious!

After dinner, we went back to Jim & Bonnie's to compare trip notes and make plans to meet for breakfast. Although they are leaving after breakfast, we'll be here all day tomorrow, so we'll be checking out a few more attractions.
